Portrait Commissions

The cost of a commissioned portrait depends on the size selected and the design (for instance, head and shoulders or full figure, the complexity of background, or number of subjects).

 

 

Here are some examples of cost based only on size and medium:

16" x 20" portrait (head & shoulders), oil on canvas ................................................................$ 450.00

 

For each additional subject, the fee increases 50%.

 

Travel expenses, shipping, framing and taxes are additional.

 

A successful portrait requires close collaboration and advance groundwork between the artist and the subject. Following a preliminary discussion to determine the setting, size and price, an appointment is set to meet and take photos. During the photo session, notes are made regarding personality, expression, and coloration for reference as the work progresses. If time permits, a live sitting is always beneficial. A preliminary drawing will be prepared for discussion and approval, based on photos and sketches. Once a composition is agreed upon, a deposit of 50% is due, and the balance is paid upon completion.
